Square Enix recently confirmed a new version of the 2010 video game at the Tokyo Game Show 2020. Officially titled, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139, the upcoming game is the remastered edition of the game.
NieR Replicant is an alternative version of the original NieR game. It featured a different protagonist and was not released anywhere outside of Japan. Moreover, Nier Replicant was only available on Playstation 3. Now, after ten years of the original release, Square Enix plans to launch the remastered edition for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. And unlike the original version, the new edition will be released worldwide. The publisher has further declared that the remastered edition will arrive on 23 April 2021.
Despite being billed as a remaster, the developers have hinted that the new version would have significant improvements. They have updated the game’s graphics to stay more in line with modern games. Also, the original cast has returned to provide a fully voiced dialogue system. Alongside these, the remastered edition’s gameplay has also been tweaked to make it similar to NieR Automata.
According to Square Enix, apart from the standard version, Nier Replicant Remastered will also have a deluxe version titled ‘White Snow Edition’. The deluxe edition offers a steel bookcase; two-CD soundtrack; a set of three pins; and seven volumes of the game’s script recording, along with a copy of the game.
NieR Replicant: Gameplay and story
For those who don’t know, NieR is a third-person action RPG. In the Replicant edition, players control a teenager character. The character does not have any name but can be named by the player. Throughout the game, he faces numerous enemies whom he has to kill to gain experience points. Players can use the points to increase the protagonist’s powers. Plus, the in-game currency can be used to customize the character or modify weapons. Gamers can also cast magic spells to defeat enemies.
The game takes place in a decaying world and follows a protagonist who is in search of a cure for an illness known as the Black Scrawl. He sets out on a journey with his companions to understand the nature of the world and its creatures.
