PS4 is getting a remake of the classic PS2 game Panzer Dragoon

Available on PC, Nintendo Switch and Stadia as well

The next-generation consoles are on the verge of launch, with Sony set to release the Playstation 5 in November. However, Sony is not ignoring the current generation gamers either. The company still plans to support the Playstation 4, as exemplified by recent releases. Now, a PS2 classic game from Sega is all set to come to PS4.

During the Tokyo Game Show, developer Megapixel Studio announced that the remake of their Panzer Dragoon game would release on the PS4 on 28 September. The remake was first available in March this year only for Nintendo Switch. It then came to Stadia in June and later, to PC earlier this month. Fans of Xbox need not worry, as the makers have confirmed that the game will arrive on the Microsoft console as well. However, they did not mention the exact date. Megapixel Studio has also established that a sequel to the remake will be coming soon.

Panzer Dragoon Remake: Gameplay and story

For the uninitiated, Panzer Dragoon is a classic Sega video game that was available on PS2, Microsoft Windows, Xbox and Sega Saturn. As a rail-shooter game, critics have widely regarded it as one of the best video games of the era. Panzer Dragoon takes place on a distant planet where two dragons awake from a long slumber. Both the dragons are armed with weapons, and the armoured blue Dragon acts as the player character’s guide. The player must stop the other, Prototype Dragon, from reaching the tower.

Panzer Dragoon Remake’s gameplay is relatively simplistic. Players have to control a flying dragon and its rider through six levels. Throughout the levels, many enemies appear all of whom the player has to shoot. Apart from regular adversaries, Panzer Dragoon also has occasional boss fights. The player has access to two weapons, including a handgun wielded by the rider, and a homing laser-equipped by the Dragon.

Panzer Dragoon Remake: New features

The new version of the game is not a remaster. Instead, it’s a full-fledged remake of the original video game. Therefore, its graphics have been completely overhauled, and even the controls have been changed. According to the developer, the new changes have been made to make it better suitable for the current generation gamers.
