Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ gets her big break

The first trailer to “Black Widow” is here and Scarlett Johansson is finally set to take the lead on this one!

Though Natasha Romanoff meets the end of her journey during the course of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, this movie is placed in the aftermath of 2016’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

The movie is set to release in May 2020 and as it kicks off phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie finds Natasha finally reuniting with her past after years of running from it.

“We have unfinished business,” she says in the trailer. “We have to go back to where it all started. One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a hell of a reunion.”

In her USA TODAY interview, Johansson added: “The film deals with real, complicated stuff,” calling her Black Widow “a character that has a lot of shame. And maybe in some weird, roundabout way, maybe some of the feelings I had going into this were actually some of her unprocessed feelings that I got to work through while making this film.

“She’s a woman whose narrative has been created for her in a lot of ways and the path that has been laid before her is not one that she’s necessarily paved herself.”

And Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to this feeling as she mentions that as a woman, she herself has struggled with expectations that others have had of her.

“Black Widow is one such character who has been integral to the Marvel journey and has been a fan favourite; especially in India. We have seen Natasha Romanoff as a spy, assassin and an Avenger; but she remains a mystery and fans now want to know her origin story more than ever. And as a special treat for these fans; we are releasing ‘Black Widow’ a day prior to the US,” Bikram Duggal, head studio entertainment, Disney India, said in a statement.

‘Black Widow’ is one of the last original Avengers to receive a solo project. It’s been a long awaited and anticipated project and the world could not be more thankful that it’s finally seeing the light of day.
