Ladies First in On Netflix : Know About Deepika Kumari’s Inspiring Story!

On the occasion of International women’s day, Netflix launched a short film based on the life of Olympic Archer Deepika Kumari. The short film is created by filmmakers Uraaz Bahl and Shaana Levy Bahl.  Ladies First is subtitled in 28 languages. The film is shot in Mumbai.  It has won the London independent film Award and it was screened at the Mallorca Film Festival in October 2017. Ladies First is rated above 7 in IMDb rating as it was initially released in 2017.

The Ladies First film tells the inspirational story of Deepika Kumari who was born on the roadside in a rural area of Jharkhand, India. Deepika struggled a lot in her early life. While struggling in life, she stumbled upon archery. As a child, she used to aim at mangoes with stones and she got her accuracy from the same.

She enrolled herself in the Tata Archery Academy with the help of her cousin Vidya Kumari. Within four years of her hardship, she represented India at the Olympics and made all the Indians proud.  She won a gold medal in the 2010 commonwealth games. 24-year-old Deepika is former number one archer in the world.

Currently, she is ranked 5th worldwide. Deepika received the Arjuna Award in 2012 by the president of India Pranab Mukherjee. In 2016, she was also awarded by the civilian award Padma Shri.

After watching this short documentary ‘ Ladies First’, the minister of women’s affairs and child development, Maneka Gandhi decided to fund women athletes and their coaching.

When asked about how it feels to make such an amazing film, Levy Bahl said, “We’re going to be the first original documentary from India. This platform enables us to show the film to as many kids as possible in India as well as the world. New York University, Stanford and George Washington universities in the US had screening for students on 8th March. This is a really proud and incredible moment for us as well as Deepika.”

The streaming giant Netflix chose the perfect occasion to release such a brilliant film to release. The documentary is must watch for everyone. Especially for those who think that only money can bring you success.
