Amazon’s The Lord Of The Rings Is Going To Be The Most Expensive TV Series

Last year, Amazon announced that it has brought the rights to produce a TV series based on J. R. R. Tolkein’s adaptation. After getting in an intense fight with Netflix, Amazon has been able to get the rights to bring Tolkien’s adaption to the small screen, which is going to be the most expensive TV series ever in the history.

Back in November 2017, Amazon acquired the rights by paying a whopping sum of $250 million, which allows them to bring The Lord of the Rings to the small screen for five seasons. However, there is a catch. According to the report of THR, Amazon has to go in production “within two years”. The report further added that the epic fantasy series would cost approx $1 billion.

Nowadays, television has become one of the most prominent and extremely competitive markets with the introduction of the streaming services. The race for quality content among the streaming portal has intensified. They are paying big bucks to generate high-quality exclusive contents. Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings could prove a game changer for the company, as it gives them a well-recognized property. If Game of Thrones popularity has anything to go by, the series has a bright future ahead.

However, there are some disadvantages of such big property as well. Because the movies were hugely popular all around the globe, remaking it could upset some fans. There are several fans, who would not like to see the remake of a classic. The never-ending comparison is another thing, Amazon has to worry about.

Since the news broke out, fans have mix reactions. Some of them are appreciating it, while some of them have slammed it. We have brought to you some of the selected Twitter reactions right here.

However, Amazon has included New Line Cinemas and Warner Bros, which suggests that they are not too much concerned about getting some flak. The rich history and size of the book will give Amazon enough space to expand the world in the most spectacular fashion.

It would be interesting to see if Amazon does justice to the J. R. R. Tolkien’s world. What do you think of the same? Tell us your thoughts in the comment section down below.
