Happy birthday Rani Mukerji: from a Mere Bengali to the queen of Bollywood

Indian cinema wishes the most popular Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji , a very happy birthday. She is one of the most renowned personalities of Indian cinema. She touched the peak of Bollywood with her flawless acting, killer expressions and of course fabulous dance, and became one of the highest-paid Hindi cinema actress in 2000’s. 

Born on 21 March 1978, Mumbai Maharashtra, this actress received many awards including the seven Filmfare awards. She was a new talent that became a milestone of thousand of young aspiring actors. A bubbly personality like hers was a thing Bollywood had never seen before, which made her special. 

She made her screen debut in a Bengali film, Biyer Phool(1996), as a supporting actor, which was directed by her father, Ram Mukerji.  Then she came with the role of a rape victim in the same year in the movie, Raja ki aaegi baraat, which was a social drama, for which she won a Screen Award. In 1998, she gained fame by acting opposite Amir Khan in the action movie Ghulam. Later she touched romantic movies opposite Shahrukh Khan in Kuch kuch hota hai, which earned her a Filmfare award in the best supporting actor category. She became the leading lady in several movies like Hello Brother(1999), Nayak(2001) etc.

Mukerji’s career flourished as Yash Raj Films casted her in Saathiya, a romantic drama that gained her another Filmfare Critics award for best actress. Again she won the best actress award in 2004 for Hum tum and best-supporting actress for Yuva. The same year she starred in Veer Zaara, the biggest hit of Bollywood that year. She was highly praised for portraying the role of a blind, deaf and mute girl in Black. Also stared in a fantasy film like Paheli.  In the following year, she played the role of an unhappy married woman in Kabhi alvida na kahna, which was also a hit. She also led Ta ra rum pum (2007).

Played the role of a headstrong tv reporter in No one killed Jesica in (2011) and earned another best supporting actor’s trophy at the Filmfare. She portrayed a grieving mother in a thriller like Talaash: the answer lies within.  In 2014 she appeared as a police officer in Mardaani. In 2018 she played the role of a teacher suffering from Tourette syndrome in Hichki , which was highest earning female-led Hindi movie. She reprised her role in Mardaani 2, which is a sequel to Mardaani.
