A Suitable Boy: Netflix’s Web Series Sparks Controversy Over Kissing Scene, BJP Leader Says ‘It Promotes Love Jihad’

A completely new controversy has shoed up over Netflix’s web series ‘A Suitable Boy’ after Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader alleged that the show has ‘hurt religious sentiments’ of many. BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra have sought action against the online streaming giant after Gaurav Tiwari, National President of BJP’s Yuva Morcha, in Reeva registered a complaint against the same issue.

As per the complaint registered by Tiwari, the show has a scene where a woman from a Hindu family and a man belonging to the Muslim community have an intimate moment in a temple. He also went ahead, adding that the show promoted ‘love Jihad’. In his tweet, he has clearly mentioned that the streaming service is promoting ‘love jihad’.

Meanwhile, Narottam Mishra said, “I have instructed authorities to check what legal action can be taken against these scenes on the Netflix OTT platform and the producer-director of the series”.

BJP spokesperson and advocate Gaurav Goel, on the other hand, called for FIR to be lodged against Netflix. He tweeted urging everyone that If any OTT platform deliberately involves insulting the Hindu Gods & Goddess, they should file a complaint with the police or local court under Section 295A of IPC. The law will take care of such offenders. He also mentioned that people are free to contact him or @chakusameer.

After the politicians’ tweets, #boycottnetflix has been trending on Twitter, with more than 200 tweets in an hour and ‘TRENDING’ in India.

A Suitable Boy is a drama series created by Mira Nair, which is an adaption of Vikram Seth’s novel with the same name. A Suitable Boy starring Ishaan Khattar, Tabu, Danish Razvi, Tanya Maniktala, Rasika Duggal, Namit Das, Randeep Hooda, Shahana Goswami, Ram Kapoor among others, dropped on Netflix on Netflix on October 23. The six-episode series is a drama story in the newly independent India.
