The annual QS World University Rankings 2021 have been announced and here’s what to know about the 20 top universities around the world. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is a leading global career and education network who publishes ‘QS World University Rankings’ which comprises the global overall and subject rankings on a basis of specific methodology used to highlight institutions’ strengths.

Six parameters for the evaluation:

  • Academic Reputation (40%)
  • Employer Reputation (10%)
  • Faculty/Student Ratio (20%)
  • Citations per faculty (20%)
  • International Faculty Ratio (5%)
  • International Student Ratio (5%)

Analysis:

  1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) stands the world’s best university for a record-breaking ninth consecutive year, followed by Stanford University in the 2nd place and Harvard University in 3rd place.
  2. The National University of Singapore standing at 11th position is Asia’s top university.
  3. British and American Institutes dominate the top 10 spots.
  4. Among the Indian Institutes to feature in the list, IISc, Bengaluru was at the 185 (ranked 184 in the prior year).IIT Bombay came in at position 172 (dropping from 152 last year). IIT Delhi was standing at 193 (as against 182 last year).
  5. Universities in Malaysia and Russia continue to rise: Lomonosov Moscow State University stands at 74th and Universiti Malaya (59th) reach record highs.
