UNODC Launches ‘Lockdown Learners’ Series of Online Dialogues With Students And Educators

The UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes) has launched a ‘Lockdown Learners’ series of online dialogues in India with students and educators. Due to nationwide lockdown, the educational institutions are closed and therefore, the organizations are coming up with an online education platform for students and learners. The United Nations body has launched the dialogues under its flagship Education for Justice Initiative in view of COVID-19 and its impact on Sustainable Development Goals, peace and rule of law.

UNODC said in a statement that through these online dialogues, the aim is to sensitise students on concerns of vulnerable groups and emerging issues such as cybercrime, gender-based violence, misinformation, corruption discrimination, among others”.

The Lockdown Learners Series will offer:

• a platform for students to receive mentorship
• knowledge support through activity-based learning
• use their skills and talent to promote awareness
• share their ideas and solutions to address sensitive issues.

Samarth Pathak, UNODC’s Communications Officer for South Asia said that the educational resources have been shared with partner schools in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru, over the last week and focused interactions convened with 100s of students and educators”.

He added that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes also welcomes schools to join these efforts in creating a positive framework and be productive during this lockdown period, empower young people to become champions of tomorrow and reduce stress through positive messaging.

UNODC’s educational products help to build special empowering skills and includes:

• free-to-use educational material and comics
• board and online games
• Zorbs cartoon series, videos and other modules that may be used by students and teachers at home to develop an understanding of peace and the rule of law

Various other educational institutions have already started their online classes due to the shutdown of schools for their students and learners. Educational platforms and websites have made their courses free for college students teachers in a variety of fields along with degrees with certificates. The courses are in the form of videos, pdf, e-books and also with face to face interaction.
