The National Program on Technology Enhancement Learning (NPTEL) founded by IIT Madras, has opened enrolment for more than 500 online certification courses, a statement from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras said.
On the course offered, Andrew Thangaraj, coordinator, SWAYAM-NPTEL-IIT Madras, stated, ”in order to streamline the efforts of learners and to guide them to obtain expertise in an area, NPTEL has initiated the idea of ‘DOMAIN CERTIFICATION’. A domain certificate courses comprise a set of core and elective NPTEL courses.”
IIT Madras has opened the registration link for more than 500 online certificate courses on the Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) platform as part of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). The courses are available free of cost and open to both students and working professionals. A nominal fee is charged for the in-person proctored exams for the certification.
“It is further added, “Those who successfully complete a domain with an average score of 60 will get a domain certificate from NPTEL. There are no additional charges or fees involved in obtaining domain certification. There are total of 44 domains across 12 disciplines available now and more are in the pipeline.”

Courses offered by NPTEL-IIT Madras
These are the following courses that students can access. Anyone who is between 13 to 86 year old can avail the course as per their interest.
- Health research fundamental and constitutional studies
- Data structure and algorithms using python
- Basic electrical circuit
- Engineering thermodynamics
NPTEL has been working towards bringing in an industry perspective to its technically rich courses and started partnering with companies through NPTEL industry-associate initiative.
The course offered by NPTEL-IITM will be helpful for students as well professional people to start their career as per their choices. It offers many opportunities to students and open the door to achieve their goals.
Prathap Haridoss, professor and coordinator, SWAYAM-NPTEL-IIT Madras said, “The certificate has equal value to get the job in companies. NPTEL will be coordinated with companies to train students about various skill-oriented-programs through video courses. Companies are allowed to use NPTEL courses to train their fresher, cross-skill, and up-skill their existing workforce.”
More than 1.2 crore learners have joined NPTEL courses to date. The NPTEL videos have received more than 1 billion views so far.
