IIT Delhi 2020: Releases “Early Graduation” policy for final year students

IIT Delhi 2020: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has released an “early graduation” policy for the final year students to ensure that the future plans of students do not get impacted due to the lockdown. The early graduation requirements will take place through an online process and therefore No student will need to come to the campus. IIT Senate approved the policy, however, it will be subject to changes as the coronavirus situation unfolds.

IIT-Delhi Director V Ramgopal Rao on Monday said that the graduating batch (students who have less than a semester of graduation requirements left) can take up an ‘early graduation’ option, which will be the June end or go through a ‘regular graduation process.

The students taking up an early graduation option will have two choices — an “audit pass or fail” option or a “credit” option. The students will be asked to exercise through an online portal as soon as instructors post their requirements for an Audit pass grade. For the audit pass-fail option, instructors will declare the cut off taking into account the COVID constraints.

Students will take online tests take-home exams, assignments, for the credit option, and also includes telephonic viva-voice, as applicable. The grading policy procedure for credit option will also be declared soon.

Being an IIT Delhi policy for 2020 Graduating batch, students can send an email for any other queries to “arugs@admin.iitd.ac.in” with a copy to “deanacad@admin.iitd.ac.in”. All mails which require clarification or reply will be attended to in 24 hours time.

The notice further states that in case if any student cannot complete early graduation requirements by June-end with these options offered to them, the student will have a fallback option to graduate when the semester reconvenes. This year pass and fail percentages will be no different from the previous years.

Various universities and schools have been closed since March 16 across the country when the Centre declared a nationwide classroom shutdown in view of COVID-19 outbreak. The later government announced a nationwide lockdown on March 25, 2020. The lockdown will continue in containment zones till June 30 as a phase-wise easing of restrictions has been announced by the government.
