Pfizer Seeking Emergency Use of Its COVID-19 Vaccine in US

Pfizer said Friday on November 20, 2020; it is asking US regulation to allow emergency use of its COVID-19 vaccine, starting the clock on a process that could bring limited first shots as early as next month and eventually an end to the pandemic but not until after a long winter season.

The companies stated,” the protection plus a good safety record means the vaccine should qualify for emergency use authorization, something the food and drug administration can grant before the final testing is complete.”

The decision of supplying emergency vaccine has been taken after Pfizer Inc and its German partner BioNTech (drugmaker) declared on Wednesday that the vaccine would be effective and its final result showed it had a 95 percent success rate and no serious side effects

The vaccine’s efficacy was found to be consistent across different ages and ethnicities – a promising sign given the disease has disproportionately hurt the elderly and certain groups including black people.

While submitting the FDA report on Friday, they have already started ‘rolling’ applications in Europe and the UK and purpose to submit similar information. The decision of speedy delivery and emergency delivery of Pfizer vaccine has been taken in order to curb the surging case of coronavirus in the US and the world. The pressure is high on Drugmakers to make these vaccines available as soon as possible.

It said on Wednesday that if everything will go well then the vaccine will be made available before Christmas that’s mean within the month the shot will be ready.

About 25 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine may become available in December, and 30 million and 35 million vaccines in January and, February – March respectively, as per the information presented to the National Academy of Medicine this week. The recipient will need two doses, three weeks apart.

It also said that removing masks will not have to be an option even after the availability of the corona vaccine. To protect from the disease mask must be in the priority list. On the eve of announcing the good news of Pfizer Vaccine, Dr. Anthony Fauci said that it is too early to abandon the masks and other equipments which have been protecting us throughout the year, these are important protective measures. ‘We need to actually double down on the public health measure as we are waiting for that help to come.’  He further added, “Help is on the way.”

Drugmakers are hoping for the best outcome until the final result came out. Drugmakers and administrative are working on the list that how much vaccine is available and when is to be started to move. But in the initial process, It will be little scare and rationed.
