The Income Tax Department is issuing income tax refunds to taxpayers at a fast pace. Recently the department had stated that it has issued income tax refunds of more than Rs 12,038 crore to more than 10.83 lakh taxpayers between April 1, 2021, and April 26, 2021. Despite this, there are still many taxpayers who are waiting for an income tax refund.
The ITR refund usually comes within 10 working days of filing the ITR. Therefore taxpayers who have filed ITR and are awaiting their income tax refund are advised to check their ITR refund status 10 days after filing ITR. Today we will tell you how the status of an income tax refund can be checked online.
You can check the status of the income tax refund on the website of National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) or on the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department.
How to check status on the NSDL website?
Step 1. Visit the NSDL website to know the status of the refund.
Step 2. On opening, the web page of the refund, provide information like PAN, assessment year, etc., and click on the procedure.
Step 3. After this, you will see the status of your income tax refund on the screen.
On the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department
Step 1. Login to the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department.
Step 2. Now select ‘View Returns / Forms’.
Step 3. Go to the ‘My Account’ tab and select ‘Income Tax Returns’ and click on submit.
Step 4. Now click on the acknowledgment number.
Step 5. Now on the screen, you will see a page, which will contain the information about your return and also the status of the income tax refund.
