Despite Covid infection, sugar production in the country increased by 16%, production is still going on in many mills of UP

Despite the second wave of Covid infection, sugar mills have produced 299.15 lakh tonnes of sugar till April 30 in the country. This is 16 percent higher than the 258.09 lakh tonnes produced in the same period last year. The sugar industry’s representative organization ISMA has said that 105.62 lakh tonnes of sugar have been produced in the country’s largest sugar producing state, Uttar Pradesh. While 116.52 lakh tonnes of sugar was produced last year. 

Increase in production in U.P. 

In UP’s 120 sugar mills, the crushing season is over in 75, while an operation is still going on in 45. However, production will stop here in the next fifteen days. However, some mills may continue production even after May. Sugar production in Maharashtra reached 105.63 lakh tonnes by April 30 this year, which is much higher than last year’s production of 60.95 lakh tonnes. In the current sugar season, 167 mills have finished crushing sugarcane. Production is still going on in 23 sugar mills. Till last year, only three mills were running here till this time. Karnataka is the third largest sugar producing state in the country. By April, sugar production had risen to 41.67 lakh tonnes. Whereas in the same period last year, it was 33.82 lakh tonnes. 

Great production of sugar in other states as well 

In other states, Gujarat produced 10.15 lakh tonnes of sugar till April. At the same time, Tamil Nadu produced 6.04 lakh tonnes of sugar. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Odisha together have produced 30.04 lakh tonnes of sugar.
