Demand for electricity at new high of 185.82 GW, indicates increased economic activity

According to the data of the Union Ministry of Power, the demand for electricity was at the maximum level of 170.97 GW in January last year. Subsequently, demand fell sharply in March due to the adverse conditions arising from the corona infection. Post lockdown, it has been seen increasing since September.

Electricity demand in the country has reached a record level. Ministry of Power Secretary SN Sahai said that power demand was 185.22 gigawatts (1,85,822 MW) at 9:35 am on Wednesday. Earlier, on December 30, 2020, electricity consumption reached a high of 182.89 GW. The increasing consumption of electricity is seen as a sign of increasing economic activity in the country.

Union Power Minister RK Singh himself gave this information via tweet. He said, ‘The demand for electricity in the country has crossed 185820 MW, which is the highest demand till date at 9.35 am this morning. As of 19 January, the demand and supply of electricity have increased by 8 per cent compared to the same period last year. This is the highest growth rate ever. This is an indication that the economy is returning. The increasing demand for electricity is a symbol of the success of Saubhagya Scheme. Under this scheme, electricity has been provided to all households including the poor and the marginalized. ‘

The peak demand for power crossed 1,85,820 Megawatt at 9:35 AM on today. This is the highest ever, a record.

According to data from the Union Ministry of Power, power demand was at a maximum level of 170.97 GW in January last year. Subsequently, demand fell sharply in March due to the adverse conditions arising from the corona infection. Post lockdown it has been seen significant increasing since September.

The best thing is that demand is constantly increasing. While demand for electricity increased by 1.7 per cent in September, it reached 3.4 per cent in October. This growth was 3.5 per cent in November. It registered a growth of 7.3 per cent in December.
