Air India: Turkish citizen Ilkar Ayci has turned down an offer to become the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air India. Aviation industry sources gave this information on Tuesday. Tata Sons had on February 14 announced the appointment of former Turkish Airlines chief Ilkar Ayci as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of its airline Air India.

Earlier on 14 February 2022, Tata Sons appointed Ilker Ayci as the CEO and MD of Air India. The decision was taken at the Air India Board meeting to consider Ilker Ayci’s candidature, in which Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran was also a special invitee. Ilker will take over Ayci from April 1, 2022. Ilker Ayci was, until recently, the chairman of Turkish Airlines.

The Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), had said on Friday that the government had to replace Air India with Ilkar IC as chief executive officer and managing director (MD). ) should not be allowed to be appointed. Swadeshi Jagran Manch’s co-convenor Ashwini Mahajan had said the government was “already sensitive” to the issue and took the matter “very seriously”. When asked why the SJM was opposing the newly appointed CEO and MD, Mahajan reiterated that it was a matter of national security.
